In recent times, Cactus Jack has become synonymous with Travis Scott – it’s the name of his record label and his adopted nickname. But the Houston-hailing rapper isn’t the first personality to use the moniker.
Another prominent Cactus Jack was WWE professional wrestler Mick Foley. Wrestling News now reports that the WWE is trying to oppose Travis Scott’s attempt to trademark the name, despite the fact that the organization hasn’t had an active claim on it since 2010 when it was abandoned.
The now-retired Foley used the Cactus Jack name as a tribute to his father, and first adopted the moniker in the 80s. Similarly, DJ Premier revealed that Scott’s father was also the inspiration behind the nickname, as he is also named Jack.
Further still, Foley wasn’t even the first Cactus Jack. Kirk Douglas’ character in the 1979 film The Villain shared the same name, and it was also U.S. Vice President John Nance Garner’s nickname.
Stay tuned to see if Travis Scott will be able to officially trademark Cactus Jack, or if he’ll have to find another nickname.
